Travel advice
You can read the travel advice for the UK on the general website of the FPS Foreign Affairs (in Dutch and in French).
ETA
From 2 April 2025, an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) will be compulsory for all Belgian travellers wishing to visit the UK for a short stay (maximum 6 months). This applies to both tourist and business travel. You can apply for an ETA from 5 March 2025.
You can find more information about the ETA below:
- What is an ETA?
An ETA is not a visa, but an advance authorisation that must be applied for online.
- Who needs an ETA?
All Belgian travellers for short stays (maximum 6 months)
Not required for those with a visa or residence permit in the UK
- How do I apply for an ETA?
The application can easily be made online and costs £10.
For more details and to apply for the ETA, go to the GOV.UK website. We recommend applying for the ETA well in advance of your trip. Please note that we have no control over the ETA procedure, which is managed solely by the UK authorities. This also applies to the video below, which is produced by the UK Home Office and that we display here for your convenience and for information purposes only.
Belgians in need
Belgium is represented abroad by more than 100 embassies and consulates-general. The embassy's area of jurisdiction may extend to neighbouring countries where there is no representation. Embassies and consulates do not fulfil a purely diplomatic mission but also act as a 'public service' for Belgians abroad. To some extent, they can provide assistance to Belgians in difficulty. In addition, there are numerous honorary consulates which, however, have fewer powers. They are not always of Belgian nationality, nor do they always speak Belgium's official languages.
