Shortly before the 85th annual Belgian military parade on 13th July, two Belgian warships arrived via the river Thames in London. The Belgian frigate BNS Louise-Marie and the Belgian minehunter BNS Lobelia moored alongside HMS Belfast, the former British Royal Navy Town-class light cruiser, on the Thames to celebrate the Britain-Belgium defense relationship. We had the opportunity to ask the commanders of the vessels a few questions.
Belgian footballer TESSA WULLAERT was born in Tielt in 1993. She currently plays as a striker for Manchester City and the Belgian national team. Her previous clubs include Zulte Waregem, Anderlecht, Standard Liège and VfL Wolfsburg. She moved to the UK a year ago. Last month, we met her in London where she was invited at a debate on the future of women’s football. Mr Peter Van Acker, The Belgian ambassador to Tanzania recently discovered that the embassy was still in possession of a medal awarded to Scottish-born James Dodds by the Belgian government for participation in heroic airlift flights rescuing Belgian civilians during the Congo uprising in 1960. The embassy held no information about the pilot except for his name.

Dr Anne Samson is an independent historian specialised in the First World War in Africa. She grew up in South Africa where she obtained her BA Degree and relocated to London in 1996 where she completed her MA in Twentieth Century History and her PhD.
In 2014, Anne started a publishing company working in partnership with authors, TSL Publications. Alongside this, she undertakes research in both the UK and South Africa and promotes the role and significance of Africa in World War 1. She runs the Great War in Africa Association.
