In future, handmade products from Belgium are to receive a new ‘HIB – Handmade in Belgium’ label in recognition of a craftsman’s original products. On 4th April, the Belgian organisation for the self-employed ‘Unizo’, awarded the first five labels.

The University of York has appointed Warwick’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, Professor Koen Lamberts, as its new Vice-Chancellor. He will take up his new post at York on 1 January 2014.

Professor Peter Piot, Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine since 2010, will be awarded the Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize for Medical Research, the Government of Japan has just announced. Professor Piot will formally receive the award from the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, on 1 June, the opening day of the 5th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V).

During the 13th National Dance Awards ceremony on 28th January 2013 at The Place in London, the ‘Stef Stefanou Award for Outstanding Company’ went to Royal Ballet Flanders. The prize was accepted by two principal dancers of the company, Aki Saito and Wim Vanlessen, who had appeared in William Forsythe’s Artifact at Sadler’s Wells last summer.
