Update civil status
IMPORTANT: Every Belgian citizen has the legal responsibility of keeping their administrative file updated at all times. If your civil status has changed, you will need to update your file in the Belgian National Register.
We ask you to send your certificate of civil status BY POST to :

You will need to send a photocopy of your passport or identity card and either the original certificate or a recent true copy (not a photocopy or scan). Attention please : your certificate may need to be legalised or apostilled first (follow THIS LINK) you also need to add a photocopy of your spouse’s passport. Please include a stamped envelope addressed to yourself (preferably a Special Delivery Envelope) in which we will send back your certificate of civil status.
If you want to come to the Belgian Embassy, you will need to book an appointment via our online appointment system. You will not be allowed to enter the Embassy if you have no appointment.
Please bring along your original certificate of civil status (properly legalised if necessary – see above), a proof of identity and, in case of a marriage certificate, a photocopy of your spouse’s passport. We will make a photocopy of your certificate and give back the original copy.
