you must be registered with the embassy in London.
How can I apply for an identity card in Belgium?
Once you are registered at the embassy, you can apply for an identity card in the last Belgian municipality where you were registered.
- Have you never lived in Belgium before? Then you can apply for an identity card in the Belgian municipality where you were born.
- Were you also born outside Belgium? Then you can apply for an identity card in a Belgian municipality of your choice.
For information on how to apply for an identity card in a Belgian municipality, you should consult the municipality’s website.
This is slightly more expensive (around 100 euros, the price varies slightly from one commune to another), but the card and the PUK code is then delivered to the municipality no later than 2 working days later and you can activate the card immediately at the town hall.
How can I apply for an identity card at another Belgian embassy or consulate?
Belgian citizens who are registered at the embassy in London cannot apply for an identity card at any other Belgian consular post worldwide.
However, the other Belgian consular posts can record your biometric information free of charge. Based on this biometric data, we can then produce an identity card here in London. Payment will be made to the embassy in London, which is also where your new card will be delivered. For more information, get in touch with the Belgian consular post where you wish to have your biometric data registered.
